I was denied clearance because am a political heavy weight – Makasembo

Kennedy Makasembo appears before IEBC to be cleared to run for Migori Senate

By TIMOTHY MBAYA

An aspirant for Migori Senate seat, Kennedy Makasembo, has said he was deliberately blocked from contesting in the forth coming by election because of the huge number of supporters he has.

Makasembo failed to clear with the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission as he did not meet the set down rules.

Makasembo, a blogger cum academician, was running on a Restore and Build Kenya party.

According to the Returning Officer, Ruth Kulundu, a proposer for Makasembo had been registered to another party (ODM) and therefore could not be cleared.

The RO said that Makasembo also came past the stipulated time IEBC has set to 4 PM.

But in a Interview after the exercise, Makasembo claimed there was a hand in ensuring that he was not in the ballot come October 8.

Makasembo said he posed a great threat and he was going to win the by-election with a landslide

“There is a hand meant to suppress and block potential candidates out of this race,” Makasembo said.

Makasembo decried a move out to block those who had shown ‘serious interest in contesting’

He said his proposer, who was said to be a registered member of ODM acted as a proposer for an RBK candidate in last year’s election.

“He (proposer) even carried his membership card as proof and had not tendered any resignation to RBK,” Makasembo said

Makasembo said the said proposer is a party official for RBK in the region.

“This issue of a candidate being in another party is just a projection of some position that some people had taken,” he said.

The RBK aspirant however assured his supporters that he will be in the ballot in the by-election

“We shall take the due process to address this and we shall be on the ballot and we are going to advise our supporters that we shall be very consistent,” he said.

He added: “Should this not be materialised then we will advise our supporters on where to go.”
