Kanyasa ward residents seek services in Homa Bay over lack of ward administrator

Residents of Kanyasa ward in Nyatike sub-county have resorted to seeking devolved government services in Homa Bay county after they failed to access the same in their ward.

The residents are calling on Migori County government to deploy a ward administrator to Kanyasa as they have lived without one for close to two years.

They said the last administrator was not in good terms with the wards former MCA Thomas Odera.

Local elder Jacktone Ochanda said difficulty in accessing services forced a number of residents move to the neighbouring Homa Bay county.

“Getting devolved services from the county government to our ward has delayed a lot because of the impasse over what we never took part on,” Ochanda said.

He added, “Since we border Homa Bay county, some residents have found it better to seek services across the county. This is hurting development in the County.”

But area MCA Jackiepol Ongoro said plans were underway to deploy an administrator to the ward.

“The problem was from the last leadership, since being elected I have constantly trying to get an admin and we hope by February the problem will have been solved,” Ongoro said.

Ongoro said an officer had been deployed to the ward on acting capacity as they awaited the employment of a new administrator.

“The other administrator was redeployed in the headquarters and I have already raised the matter with governor Okoth Obado and executive in charge, I expect it to be solved once and for all,” Ongoro said.
