An aspirant for the Rongo Parliamentary seat has called on Migori County residents to immediately register as voters and avoid waiting for last minute to do so.
While addressing a section of the Rongo constituents in Kobado area within Rongo constituency, Kennedy Okeyo said many people ended up missing the registration deadlines because of waiting for the last minute to register.
“I want to ask our people to take advantage of this exercise and resister early. This will ensure that they take part in next year polls and elect good leaders to take this country forward,” he said.
He further called on youths from the region to turn up in large numbers and register saying they too deserved to take part in choosing the leadership of the region.
“Despite youths being fifty per cent of Kenya’s population, majority’s don’t participate in choosing the leadership of the country simply because they haven’t registered as voters,” he said.
He said it’s time youths of this county get serious and register as voters since it’s the only way they will be guaranteed to get leaders of their choice to address their problems.
“Youths have always been taken for granted as people who don’t have a stand, since they can be swayed either way after being given some money. It’s time we wake up from deep slumber and elect leaders who can help the youth and that’s only through voter registration. The future of Kenya depends on youths,” he said.
He added that he was confident of winning the Rongo Parliamentary seat in the next year’s polls and said once elected, he will work towards improving education standards as well as addressing youth unemployment in the area.
