Pregnant Migori town woman kills daughter, 4, commits suicide over marital woes

Ombo estate residents in Migori town are still reeling in shock after a pregnant woman killed her four years old daughter and committed over marital woes.

Neighbours said Candeva Muvinya, 26, had protracted marital problem with her husband who is a teacher at a local secondary school over plans he was planning to marry a second wife and other problems in their marriage.

Muvinya was a graduate who was yet to get a job..

“Relatives and friends tried to solve the problem severally after the woman had attempted to commit suicide earlier, we were shocked over the incident. We knew they had a problem and thought it was solved,” Angela Odira a neigbour said.

According to Samwel Okombo Ombo estate Nyumba Kumi elder the incident happened on Tuesday evening at around 7:30pm.

“They spend time with the husband who had left school and he had gone to buy supper, when he came back the door was locked from inside. We broke and found her dead together with the daughter,” Okombo said,

Muvinya is said to have solved the matter with relatives and friends over the matter and the suicide was shocked.

“This is the second time she had attempted to commit suicide, earlier she had tried to do so in a water tank and failed,” Mary Akinyi a neighbor said.

Neifghbours said the husband, a teacher at a local secondary school came back in the evening and went to buy supper and other items for home use.

“When the husband came back the door was locked from inside and several attempts at calling failed, we broke down the door before we were shocked,” Akinyi said.

“We found the woman and her daughter dangling from a sisal rope in the bedroom, she might have killed the daughter and also took her life,” Okombo said.

Her body and that of her child were taken to Migori Referral Hospital awaiting post mortem examination as Suna East police boss Esau Echorokodi said they had launched their investigations into the matter.Ends
