Migori woman representative aspirant Lilian Akugo has denied claims of stepping aside for governor Okoth Obado’s wife Helen who has joined the race.

Akugo, the Jubilee Party candidate for the August 9 polls said in a statement to the press that she if firmly in the race and watered down rumours that she has quit.

“My name has been cleared by the IEBC for the next polls, as a candidate my grass root mobilisation and agenda is firmly with the people and i will push through agenda by Jubilee Party,” Akugo said.

The Woman Representative seat is vacant after the incumbent Pamela Odhiambo decided not to defend her seat and went for governor seat.

Akugo said as a candidate she speaks for herself and any hints on social media by those close to her does not represent her agenda and the wish of Migori voters and her supporters.

“There is no way I can step down for Mrs Obado who is barely three days old in the race yet I have campaigned all this while. Forget about the social media posts which doesn’t reflect my position. I am focused in the race and I have a vision which I can’t shelve,” Akugo noted.

Lillian’s husband Domnic Akugo is the Director of Administration director at Migori governor Obado’s office and the two families have been close allies.

Her statement comes barely a day after Obado declared her bid for the county’s woman representative seat on an Independent ticket.

Obado’s wife comes in with the heavy name of the husband legacy and baggage, as he is accused of killing his former girlfriend Sharon Otieno and facing a litany of corruption cases.

Helen decision to avoid People’s Democratic Party (PDP) associated with her husband has also raised queries in Migori.
