County government to construct 17 markets at Sh91million

Migori county government will construct a total of 17 modern markets within the county at cost of 91 million.

While launching Uriri sub county modern market, Migori county governor Okoth Obado said the modern market will be distributed across the county.

The first phase of building the markets will cost Sh. 91 M and will be built in a way that they will be easily extended in the second phase.

“We have today launched the construction of our modern markets and this we will do in all our sub counties, with this we will improve our economic status of our county.” He said.

Governor Obado also launched Uriri boda boda Sacco where he distributed 25 motor cycles worth 2.5 Million.

Obado advised youths and women to form groups and Sacco that will see them develop in their saving system as a group.

“Our saving culture will improve if we form Sacco’s and embrace table banking among our groups and this will make us develop us a county”.  He added.

The boda boda sacco project is owned by the operators themselves and governor Obado advised them to utilise the funds got from the activity as their investment in the industry.

However, the governor received complaints from the boda boda operators over conceren of security loopholes in the area that scare the development of the boda boda sacco industry.

Uriri sub county boda boda sacco chairman Aaron Aningu accused the neighboring county officers of mishandling them and even receiving harassment from some of the county enforcement officers.

“Governor we want to inform you that your officers are demanding more charges than it is in the receipts and if you don’t pay you are arrested, our boda boda operators also suffer when they travel past Migori County so please talk to Homa Bay officials to stop mistreating us,” he requested.

Governor Obado agreed to talk to homa bay governor Cyprian Awiti over the issue to enhance peaceful movement of boda boda operators within the county.

Over  Sh.200,000 was contributed to Uriri boda boda Sacco to help start the investment in the boda boda industry
