Rongo Hospital management on spot over corruption

The Migori County government has started investigations over claims that the management of Rongo Hospital are embroiled in corruption.

Health Chief Officer Donald Jaleny said that he is not aware that the hospital “sold off” five mature trees and vowed to follow up the issue with the hospital management.

Rongo residents have raised concern and placed the management on the spot over misuse of public resources claim the trees were harvested and timber ferried off irregularly.

The cutting of the trees has illicit harsh reaction from the public who claims that the trees were sold and money pocket by individuals.

The hospital medical superintendence Denisse Obuon said that the trees were cut when he was away but he was given a convincing report by the hospital administrator Castric Otuoma and public health officer in charge of hospital Joseph Ouma.

“The process of clearing the trees started long way back in 2013 before I joined the hospital and the implementation process were under the office of the public health and hospital administrator,” Obuon said.

In a joint press statement, Otuoma and Ouma said project was done procedurally with permission from the Kenya Forest Department.

They claimed that trees were likely to cause danger in near future and so they had to remove them.

“The trees were  not sold but given to individuals who are going to prepare car park and plant flowers in the hospital in return,” they said.
