Nyatike MP Tom Odege has said Migori leaders using addition of Nyatike constituency should not undermine ODM leader Raila Odinga and the forthcoming referendum push.

Odege said since the unveiling of the Building Bridges Initiative report “there is an impression that in Migori county, Nyatike was to be divided into one or more constituency.”

“Politicians have been picking on this, but anybody trying to use this as a means to undermine the referendum is undermining a community,” Odege said.

He was speaking on Friday at Lwanda Magwar secondary where he inspected the ongoing construction of a dinning hall.

“When time comes for Nyatike to be divided, we will do so willingly” he said.

He was reacting a story in a local vernacular radio attributed to his rival Odiso Ogenga, where he blamed the current leadership for stalling sub-division of the constituency.

“We know proponents of TangaTanga out to confuse people to ensure the BBI referendum fails, we know that and in Nyatike we will stand firm against Deputy President William Ruto foot soldiers,” he said.

He blamed those using the issue for political gains of being dis-honest.

“When the handshake was reached, none of us knew what was going on. It gave birth to BBI, it was Raila who negotiated on behalf of the community,” he said.

he said when the BBI secretariat was in the region, no leader brought forth any idea of sub-division and reccomendations.

“Before they jump around to start pulling a storm in a teacup they should tell the public what effort they did,” he said.
