For over a decade, the Migori county headquarter project have stalled after it was started by the former powerful Kanu maestro Oyugi Ogango..

Situated at Ombo hills overlooking Migori town, the three storey stalled headquarters greying with age sits on forlornly like a dinosaur fossil.

On Saturday, two former Migori mayors Suna East MP Junet Mohammed and his Suna West counterpart Peter Masara led the assembly Administration and Security Committee to visit the site bringing excitement over the project.

The assembly committee chairman and Kiambaa MP Paul Njoroge and Migori county commissioner Boaz Cherutich led delegation to visit the site with an aim of ensuring the stalled project is finished.

“The committee had to visit the site to see the project and recommend on the way forward, even if it included budget allocation to finish this project which has been an eye sore,” Njoroge said.

Other committee members who visited the project, included Homa Bay town MP Opondo Kaluma, Teso North MP Oku Kaunya and Mwea MP Wachira Kabinga.

Ogango, who hailed from the county is said to have pushed through the start of the project in early 90s.

“Migori was set out to be a sub-district for the greater Southern Nyanza district which covered Homa Bay and Migori counties. The project was launched to launch Migori as a pointer to usurp power from Homa Bay town,” Tom Rachuonyo, a veteran journalist who covered the launch said.

Rachuonyo said during its time, the building was to be the only storey government structure in the region and only ‘gorofa’ building in Migori town.
