Awendo town

A 32 year old man has been sentenced to death and 40 years imprisonment in two accounts of crime cases.

The man Calvince Owiro ‘Hilter’ who has been in police custody after his arrest on 30th May 2017 was charged with two accounts of crime which the court found him to have committed in Awendo Sub County before his arrest and linked to cases of abduction which was rampant in the area.

While reading his judgment at Rongo Residential magistrate court, the Magistrate Raymond Langat said that the convict was found culpable of Robbery with violence contrary to section 296(2) of the penal code in the first account of crime.

The court heard that on 26th of November 2016 at Awendo town was found to be armed with crude weapon such as knife and robbed Christine Auko of Mobile phones and Ksh.5000 all valued at 55,000 before wounding her.

He will serve a death sentenced for this crime.

In the second account, the suspect and others not before the court gang raped Christine Auko Owuor on the same night contrary to section 10 of the sexual offences act No.3 of the 2006.

He was also charge with committing an indecent act with an adult contrary to 11(A) of the sexual offences act No.3of 2006 and will now serve 40 years imprisonment.

They committed the crime for three days and nights.

Calvince Owiro has been the prime suspect behind cases of abduction and rape cases in Awendo region since December last year before he was arrested in May 30th this year.
