Obado: I will not resign over Sh600million corruption claims

Migori governor Okoth Obado has insisted he will not step aside over corruption allegation brought by Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).

Obado featured in the infamous list of shame where he is accused of misappropriating Sh600million through flawed tendering and procurement process.

Obado also insisted Uhuru Kenyatta should first resign as president before calling on governors to step aside as he lacks moral authority.

He said Uhuru could not fight corruption in his own cabinet and can’t tell “county presidents elected by people mandate to step aside.”

He was reacting to a push by governor aspirant Mark Nyamita who told him to step aside over corruption and stop claiming political manipulation in the list.

They were at a public gathering during a fundraiser in aid of Minyenya secondary school in Rongo Sub County.

“Governor should take responsibility and resign from office as he waits for clearance against the claims. He should stop his blame games and allow investigations to go on as directed because failure of the governor to resign from office in effect to the requirement of the law is a breach of rule of law,” Nyamita pointed out.

But Obado insisted he was clean and “Migori county government is the best in spending funds and our first priority is to work for our people.”

“I expected to see a group of Corruption commission office probing me and even investigating my government if something was wrong and that was not done, you can’t accuse someone for a mistake he does not know,” he insisted.
