Pentagon beats Kowino to clinch Oruba-Ragana champs

Pentagon FC beat Kowino Primary 2-0 in the finals to emerge winners of this year’s Ragana Oruba ward annual sports tournament.
In the third place play off, Oruba Home Boys overcame Jovena FC 3-0 to emerge third during the game played at the Migori TTC grounds.
11 football  teams drawn from the ward  among them Nyanko FC, Green army, Ragana, Blackstarts and Oruba Kiisia took part in the tournament, which was sponsored by the area Ward Representative Hezron Okello.
The winners were awarded with balls, a trophy and a set of uniform while the second team got balls and cash. The second runners-up got two balls with the fourth team  also getting a ball.
In netball, Clevers Netball club came top of the league after amassing 21 points, followed by Baraza who had 17 teams. Kiringi netball team was third with 14 points while Ragana was fourth with 11 points with  Oruba Siany finishing fifth with 10 points in games which were played on a league format.
The winning team got  a volleyball and a set of uniform with the second team getting three balls while the third and the fourth team got a ball each.
Volleyball only had two team taking part with Mavoko volleyball team beating Ragana Oruba by 3 sets to one to win the tournament.
Speaking during the award giving ceremony, Okello who is also the chairman of the Sports Committee at the Migori County Assembly said the main aim of the tournament was to form three teams from the ward which he will then support to represent the ward at the County level.
“We have been picking the best players we are sure we will have  strong team,” he said adding that they will then be able to develop their talents from there.
According to the tournament coordinator Webster George, the tournament will continue being carried out yearly to ensure that any new talent is discovered earlier and developed to enable them achieve their full potentials.
