KOBWANGA: Why I support Obado on World Bank project despite Kuria claims

Migori governor Okoth Obado launching a project

By Roy Elijah Kobwanga

I want to state here categorically that I support fully governor Okoth Obado who has been on constant attack by misguided leaders on Sh516m World Bank project.

The project under the Kenya Urban Support Programme ( KUSP) designated Awendo, Rongo and Migori as the beneficiaries which was a decision away from Obado’s mandate.

A quick preview of the conditions set by the five year World Bank funded programme gives clear guidelines on the issue of identification of the urban centres.

None of which were set down by the governor.

Sadly, the matter has been taken to courts and even pushed through stopping recruitment of municipal managers and boards which is a total witch hunt.

Among key proponents of the push are Kuria East MP Marwa Kitayama and his Nyatike counterpart Tom Odege, who should eat the humble pie and meet with the governor on ways of implementation of projects.

I honestly feel for the governor in a situation where leaders whose main role is representation refuse to sit down with him to discuss issues of development and only come out to cry foul once the projects are identified and launched.

This is the highest point of political dishonesty.

It is also imperative to note that two legislators, Awendo’s Walter Owino and Rongo’s Paul Abuor who joined the governor in launching the project have come under scathing attack from a section of politicians against Obado.

This shows the level of dishonesty and political immaturity on those still hell bend in attacking Obado.

I conclude by saying that we must change our ideology by divorcing politics from development and take a leaf out of the handshake between Rt. Hon Raila Odinga and His Excellency Uhuru Kenyatta.

Development is development irrespective of who brings it.
