Attack on Langata pupils calls for police reforms

By Raymond Ochieng

The absurd attack on pupils of Langata Road Primary School by police officers have shown the country the immediate need of continued and sustained police reforms.

The incident which painted the country negatively across the globe is among major criticism pointing out numerous issues on our security custodians.

Thorough directives should be taken beyond vetting of several corporals and a group of senior policemen to ensure we get a disciplined force to curb rising security lapse.

Usually many cases of raids, theft, robbery, taking of bribes by our trusted security personnel are key causes of indiscipline police forces.

Most often in such ugly incidences Kenyans fail to understand what disciplinary action is taken. No policeman has ever been taken to court or even investigated on such matters.

To our embarrassment, there are always no resignations and sacking witnessed as envisaged.

The Internal Security CS Joseph Nkaiserry should come out clearly and work with police oversight authority to help end similar vices.
