Sindo Drowned Fisherman’s Body Retrieved, Search For Second On

Search has been heighten to retrieve the body of Sindo beach fisherman that drowned on Lake Victoria after a colleague’s body was found by local divers.

The two drowned on Tuesday January 31 in Suba South Sub County.

The body of Bahati Ongoje from Gwassi was found at Ragwe beach area who were on a search mission for five days.

Ongoje drowned close at Wadiang’a beach, Sindo, at night while on a fishing expedition.

Suba South Beach Management Unit chairman William Onditi said the deceased was sleeping on a boat before sleep walking into the lake and to his death.

“According to the report we have, the late Ongoje met his death after he fell into the after up from a slumber from his boat while on a fishing mission on Tuesday night,” he said.

The body was moved to Sindo Sub County Hospital mortuary for preservation. 

In another separate incident the search for the body of Joshua Otieno drowned at Kibuogi Island is still on.

He was also on a fishing expedition during the ugly incident which occurred last Tuesday.

The chairman said the fishermen and other Lake users are ongoing with the search which now enters its sixth day.

He however advised the fishermen to study the weather before embarking on such missions due to strong waves currently being experienced in the Lake.
