SHAME on Migori leaders as Sonko pays hospital bills for police brutality victims

Nairobi governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko has come to the rescue of victims of police brutality who were admitted at a local hospital in Migori town.

The five victims had been detained at Ombo mission hospital after they failed to raise hospital bills totaling to close to sh.270, 000

They sustained serious gunshot wounds and soft tissue injuries from beatings by police after chaos broke out after the repeat presidential poll last Friday.

One man was reported dead after he was shot in Oruba, within Migori town.

The hospital bill was accumulating and they could not settle it when they appealed for help prompting the Nairobi governor to come to their.

The sh. 263,341 was settled through Sonko Rescue Team who heard the victims’ pleas through media reports.

Speaking to MN at Ombo Hospital after the bill was settled; David Ouma Okong’o thanked Sonko for coming to their rescue.

“We are grateful to Sonko for settling our bill as we can now get out and start our normal lives,” Okong’o said.

Jacob Odhiambo Owuor said he was glad that they were going to resume their normal lives though they were still in pain.

Bernard Ojwang’ owed the hospital sh. 57,000, David Okong’o shs. 82,805 and Collins Ochieng’ shs. 57,235.

Jacob Odhiambo and Harrison Ochieng’ owed shs. 44,901 and shs. 11,120 respectively.

It is also reported that the victims were also given shs. 10,000 each apart from the paid bills.

This comes barely three weeks after the Sonko Rescue team bailed out a woman who lost four kids in a morning accident in Mabera.

But Migori Ford-Kenya branch chair Samuel Migore blamed Migori leaders for their laxity in rescuing victims the victims.

He said the residents fought for them on the   streets but the leaders were nowhere when they needed their help.
