Johnston Owiro, The Migori county assembly majority leader has been impeached and his position taken over by North Kamagambo MCA Richard Solo.

Cord MCAs accused Owiro of incompetence and siding with opposition to attack motions and polcies in the house.

They also accused him of misuse of office and county resources, failure to do his duties as required and failure to protect party interests at the Assembly.

Abedi Maroa, the Masaba MCA who led the onslaught said Owiro’s incompetence heavily taxed Cord and ODM party which was reduced to a minority in passing agenda.

“We just can’t have Owiro in the office when he never does what he is expected to be doing in the House to help push Cord and ODM agenda,” he said.

MCAs who spoke to Migori News said Owiro has been close to embattled governor Okoth Obado and was in for front to go againt wishes of Cord principals by not giving the way forward when former PM Raila Odinga visted Migori.

South Sakwa Ward Rep Jared Osawa said he employed his relatives in the Assembly where he is a member without properly laid out regulations.

“The leader sits at the County Assembly Service Board and instead of ensuring that jobs were regularly given to deserving people equitably, he awarded almost all the vacancies to his ward when other award were given lesser allocations,” said Osawa.

However, Owiro termed the impeachment as illegal and went against standing orders terming allegation leveled against him as “ false and manipulated by power hungry MCAs.”

“I never individually participated in employment and in any appointment where I had interest I declared beforehand to the board. All I know is that I am the majority leader and still wait for Orange House to offer clearance,” he said.

On his part Solo said he was ready for the new task and vowed to work with diligence in executing his new roles.
