The Kwale man who cane me and Kwale governor Salim Mvurya was paid by anti-referendum forces, Cord leader Raila Odinga has said.

Odinga insisted that Lengo Mdzomba was paid to embarrass him and said the attack has shown how the country’s security operation has failed.

“Mdzomba was paid by politicians who are against devolution and we will soldier on with our calls for referendum,” he said.

He said he won’t press charges against Mdzomba, but wanted the police to help ascertain the people who had sent his assailants.

The former prime minister insisted that the call for referendum has taken another turn after Jubilee failed to have a dialogue with Cord.

“When I came back from abroad, Kenyans confronted me with a lot of problems dogging the country. I asked President Uhuru and his Jubilee Government to engage Kenyans in dialogue over the issues but they refused,” he said.

He said calls from referendum stemmed from Kenyans need for change in the country.

He insisted the Okoa Kenya drive will help correct the country problems like lopsided public jobs allocation and high cost of living.

Raila was speaking at Ageng’a village in Nyatike constituency, Migori County during the burial of Mzee Nelson Onyango, the father of Denis Onyango, the Director of Communication in his office.

Raila said that devolution brought development closer to the people to reduce “state house delegation meetings were guests came out with stuffed briefcases.”

“We seek more funds to carry out substantial development in counties and that should be pushed through a referendum,” he said.
