Awendo MP Walter Owino has said he has contacted Migori county government to help in repair the pathetic Awendo town market road.

Owino said the road, which he had started to repair while campaigning, falls under the county government and will be maintained once national government avail funds locally.

On Wednesday, traders called on county elected leaders to ensure the market road which formed key in campaign pledges is repaired.

During the last campaigns Owino used his own finances to maintain the road after locals accused immediate former legislator Jared Kopiyo of neglected.

Kopiyo and former Central Sakwa MCA Johnson Owiro lost in the polls over the same road.

“The road should be maintained in current financial year as I will work closely with governor Okoth Obado and ensure the road is maintained,” he said.

He said the repair of the road will include putting culverts for drainage and offering alternative route during work.

“We have been faced by these same bad road for the last five years and in last campaigns we faced the same pledges for maintenance. We just want elected leaders to help us,” Peter Okinyi, a resident said.

Okinyi said maintenance of the road will be key in determining how they will vote in 2022.
