Migori county lawyers through the Law Society of Kenya have vowed to persecute individual police officers behind brutality meted on residents last week.

Addressing Migori News in Migori town on Tuesday, the lawyers led by advocates Odhiambo Kanyangi, Marwa Kerario and Edward Kisia said they will also ensure victims are compensated.

They condemn police for the death of Thomas Owino, 39, from Oruba estate who was shot death and scores other who were injured, raped, maimed and property looted.

“We have never witnessed such atrocities in Migori, we will help in compensation of victims and prosecution f police officers,” Kanyangi said.

He said among those hurt included Muslims were assaulted and teargas canisters lobbed in mosques.

“We have been contacted by Independent Police Oversight Authority and other agencies including Kenya Human Rights and Equality Commission to work with victims mostly at Oruba Nursing Homes, St Joseph Mission and Migori Level Four Hospitals,” he said.

Kerario said police were out to kill people and individual members will charged.

“Police have been trained during demonstrations to repel, round up unruly protesters with a view of taking them before court which never happen as no single demonstrator was charged,” he said.
