Kokuro Secondary School and hundreds of families are counting loses after a rain storm accompanied by hailstorm swept through Central Sakwa ward, Awendo.

The school’s principal Philip Obat said the school lost property worth over Sh3.5million as the storm broke windows, destroyed dining hall roof, had six electric poles fallen and six staff houses in ruins.

He said the area has been plunged into blackout after the storm also fell electric poles on house tops.

“We are lucky no student was hurt during the storm, but we call on well-wishers to come for our aid,” Obat said.

Peter Okello, a resident said he escaped death narrowly as his roof was blown off after electric wires dropped around his house.

“The storm picked up the roof and live wires. I was lucky my house did not catch fire,” he said.

Area MCA Johnson Owiro said both county government and Awendo CDF kitty will come to the rescue of the school and residents.
