Migori governor Okoth Obado plans to pay 236 former councilors in the county millions as send off package and pension.

Obado the amount will be factored in the forthcoming supplementary budget which will be passed in February next year.

He said he will use his influence to push through a meeting between the councilors and assembly by December to ensure the petition is passed smoothly in the house.

“I have no problem with the proposal and the amount agreed on by both teams will be allocated in the current supplementary budget to be debated in next year,” he said.

He said former councilors were paid peanuts despite being the midwives of the current devolution and county governments.

Already Siaya county government have allocated Sh372 million as a send-off package for 248 former councilors who will each receive Sh1.5 million before the end of the year and later have a monthly allowance of Sh30,000.

Afterwards Siaya county government will spend Sh892.8 million annually to pay the councillors.

Elijah Ouma, the chairman of Migori Former Councilors Forum said the move was nobel and will support Obado re-election in 2017.
