Over 100,000 Migori county households will receive government subsiside gas, Awendo MP Walter Owino who sits at the parliament Energy Committee has said.

Owino said those targeted will be from poor families as already containers which will be used as distribution points have been placed across all eight sub-county headquarters.

“By the end of this week all centers, which will be in sub-county headquarters will receive their containers,” Owino said.

According to Owino, the gases which will be sold at Sh2,000 (for cylinder, gas, grill and burner) will be refilled at Sh840.

The energy committee has set through the National Oil Corporation of Kenya a Sh2.2billion kitty to distribute 4.3million cylinders across the county.

“The pilot programmes in Machakos and Kajiado counties went on smoothly, we will ensure Migori gets the best out of this deal,” Owino said.

He said tobacco and sugarcane farming has seen deforestation and causes of disease by using firwood, which will be changed by the project.
