The Migori County Government has allocated 50 acres of land for Kisii University to build a constituent college at Rapogi in Uriri sub-county.

The college will also build a health facility at the land to serve both students and locals.

The Catholic Church and Migori County have been embroiled into protracted land battle in the same region, raising queries over availability of the land.

In a press statement to Migori News, Governor Okoth Obado director of Press Nicholas Anyuor indicates that the county government has been holding talks with the university management.

Anyuor stated that Obado held a lengthy meeting with a section of Kisii university staffs led by Deputy Vice chancellor in charge of Academics Prof Maurice Amutabi.

Obado the move will boost education in Migori and boost Rongo University, the only university in the county.

The constituent university of Kisii is also expected to create job opportunities to the locals who will be employed in both formal and informal sectors to reduce unemployment rate.

Prof Amutabi said all casual jobs will be reserved for the community surrounding the anticipated institution while those with expertise in certain field will be given the first priority in formal sector.
