Local leaders in Kuria East sub-county have complained of insecurity after five people were shot dead in a robbery in Ntimaru town on Saturday evening.

Four robbers, one of them armed with an AK47 assault rifle attacked a shop belonging to Joseph Mwita during the market day at 7:16pm.

They forced the trader’s wife to give them Sh20,000 in cash and a mobile phone before demanding more.

“In the process of taking the amount they shot the trader dead in the shop before trying to flee,” a trader said.
Kuria East OCPD Patrick Lobolia said others were shot from a crowd that was outside the shop.

“They shot dead two other people; Steven Mwita Gisendo and Marwa Mwita Maitara as they escaped towards neighbouring Tanzania,” he said.

The other succumbed from gunshot wounds while police have launched a manhunt.
