Chronic absenteeism and indiscipline has placed Malera Mixed from Suna West sub-county at the bottom of the KCSE 2019 ranking.

The school managed a mean score of 2.8, a E (minus) with the top student scoring a C- (minus) meaning no candidate, out of 87 who sat for KCSE will have a direct entry into the university.

Zablon Moseti, the school’s principal said the biggest challenged faced by the school is “indiscipline among students leading to chronic absenteeism, coupled with poor infrastructure and parents who completely to pay fees.” Moseti said.

He said in term two they had mock examinations for their 87 candidates, and only 60 candidates had turned up to do the examinations while 27 were not in school to do the test.

“Out of the 60 candidates who were in school or the mock examinations, 11 dropped out midway and never bothered to finish the test,” Moseti said.

He said Migori Woman Representative Pamela Odhiambo, an academician herself, was called afterwards and motivated the students.

“When we inquired most said they had lost hope of ever passing the national examinations with most doing so as a formality,” Moseti said.

He said the high cases of indiscipline has been caused by lack of teachers, as the school does not even have a deputy with only five teachers employed by the Teachers Service Commission to manage 549 students.
