Migori governor Okoth Obado has faulted the Ministry of Education for rolling out a new education curriculum without getting an input from the council of governors.

Obado said counties have a role to play in the education sector yet they had been overlooked by Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i.

The governor said county governments are tasked by the constitution to oversee polytechnics and Early Child Development Education granting them a right to be heared.

“So far most county governments are still building ECDE classrooms contrary to the new education curriculum which has only two levels of education at lower level,” he said.

He added, “I cannot recall any forum organised by the cabinet secretary in order change the education system, we were ignored as governors,” Obado said

Obado challenged the Education CS to involve governor since they will be directing county resources towards building ECDE classroom, polytechnics as well as employing teachers to the schools.

Obado was speaking at Migori Stadium, Monday, during the launch of Governor’s Scholarship for more than 200 students who sat for KCPE last year.

Over Sh12 million was disbursed to 200 form one needy students who will be joining various secondary schools in the country.
