Former Migori MP Owino Likowa has been picked by the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) as the next speaker in Wednesday voting, county chairman Philip Makabong’o said.
Making the announcement in Migori town on Tuesday, Makabong’o was flanked by secretary general Joseph Olala and 43 out of 59 MCAs in the assembly.
“We met and deliberated on speaker position after constant lobbying by candidates in the past three weeks and we have narrowed down on Likowa, we have not ruled out other candidates from undertaking the exercise, but the party has decided,” Makabong’o said.
Central Kanyamkago MCA Eunice Odii who is vying as a deputy speaker said the decision was binding and will ensure there is smooth running of assembly and executive.
“We have taken this decision to bank on Likowa as a welcome, we need a leadership in assembly that will also include women in leadership,” Odii said.
