Members of one family that were burned alive their home were yesterday buried in Okumbo village in Uriri sub county.

The five died after arsonists locked their house from outside on the eve of December 23 and set their house on fire killing them.

A somber mood engulfed the village as Damian Osuji and his inherited wife Lencer Aoko alongside their children were laid to rest.

Erick Otieno, a student at Rapogi high school was the only surviving member of the family after her other siblings Cynthia Auma (13), Basil Okoth (6), and Lovin Auma (1) perished in the fire.

Following the arson, police arrested Benter Osuji, the other wife to Damian but was later released as police continue with their investigation.

According to Oyani DO Willy Murgor police were forced to release the suspect as there was not enough evidence linking her to the crime.

The burial was organised by two churches attended by the two families but was never attended by Benter and her family.

Sources say Benter has kept away from her home since the incident and has left behind eight children.

This includes four who are in secondary school and are yet to go back to school.

But Speaking during the burial yesterday, Uriri MP Mark Nyamita said he will sponsor the children to ensure they finish school.

“I have taken full scholarship of the form three student and another student from the other family to ensure they finish their education,” Mark Nyamita, Uriri MP said.

Nyamita said Uriri had not experienced such a massive loss in the past and urged the family to work with the police for peace

Nyamita led local leaders: George Omamba (North Kanyamkago MCA), Graham Kagali (South Kanyamkago MCA), Ben Oremo (East Kanyamkago MCA) and Napthali Ochola (Korogocho MCA) in leading a fund drive in the area.
