By MN Reporter

Three hills in Suna East constituency are set to benefit from 0.5million tree planting project funded by European Union and two local NGOs.

Two community based organization; Ratiro Community Development Group(RACODEG)and Community Action For Rural
Development(CARD)launched the project worth Sh12,439,350 at Got Kachola primary schools.

The project launched in 2012 will benefit God Jope, God Kachola and God Nyaduon hills.

90 per cent of the project is funded by European Union (EU) through the national government while the rest is funded by the two organisations.

Speaking during a tree planting ceremony where a total of 14,900 seedlings were given for free to the area residents courtesy of RACODEG at God Kachola primary school, Deputy Director of National Environmental Authority Management (NEMA) Migori, Mr. Paul Odeyo appealed to the residents to preserve the environment.

He said the planting of the tree will attract more rain in the region hence boost agricultural activities in the entire county.

RACODEG programme manager Linet Otenga urged residents of Migori to put themselves in to groups so that they can be given free seedlings to plant. She challenged the residents of Migori County to plant trees as an
investment besides environmental conservation. She said that the
organization has managed to raise a total of 18,500 seedling to be
used by the communities around god Jope, got Kachola and got Nyaduong
so as to achieve a forest cover of 10% at the end of this year. She
urged the communities to embark on tree planting so as to improve the
environment conservation and agriculture production in the area.
