Night runners want Homa Bay and Migori county government to allocate them development funding for their activities.

Through their association, Kenya Night Runners Union, the night runners said their activity has boosted security in the region hence they need recognition.

They said they have been sidelined by the county government officials.

The union chairman Jack Songo said that they are discriminated especially when it comes to allocation of development funds.

Songo said funds which are supposed to be directed to their account is being channeled to other projects.

Speaking to Migori News, Songo said they have domesticated 214 hyenas, hippos, crocodiles and snakes which they use in their night activities.
Songo claimed his two ‘domesticated” hippos gave birth earlier last week.

“At times we can’t even cater for funeral expenses of members hence they are compelled to give indecent burial,” he said.

He was speaking from Okiro Beach, Gwasii in Homa Bay county where they attended a burial of their member and official only identified as Agoro who died while in line of duty.

“Our colleague was riding a hyena at night which jumped into a thicket and a tree stump hit him on the chest,” he said.

He said due to discrimination their colleague was given a poor send off.

Now night runners are appealing to the Cabinet secretary in charge of sports and Culture, Hassan Wario  to ensure that  at least some funds are set aside for their activities which should be recognized.

Songo also said they have been frustrated by the CIDs whom he claimed have declined to give them certificates of good conduct as they are only given “certificate of bad conduct.”
