Kuria East MP aspirant and Migori nominated MCA Rahab Robi took time to visit Nyamanche Primary School in Nyabasi East ward where she started off as a teacher in a plan to give back to the society.

The aspirant through Rahab Robi Peace Foundation will partner with two international NGOs to build a dormitory for candidates next year which will also double up as peace center.

The center will offer refugee to students uprooted in clashes between clans (Abairege and Abanyabasi) and tribes (Kuria, Kalenjin and Maasai) in the area caused by politics, cattle rustling, land among others.

“My campaigns will majorly revolve around bringing peace in Kuria East constituency, as a woman I cut across two main clans of Nyabasi and Abairege which will form key in fostering peace,” she said.

She added: ““During conflicts students in affected areas often use Nyamanche Primary School as a shelter to continue with their education as parents displaced, making the project to be timely.”

Robi will seek partnership with international NGOs Peace Caravan and World Peace Foundation in Korea with the center likely going up by next year.

“The proposal to have the center is at advance stage and we expect to start work soon with the boarding dorm coming up by next year,” she said.

Robi started her teaching career with Nyamanche being her government posting as a teacher and during a Friday tour at the school took time off to teach ECDE students and encourage students.

“When I left here my subject, English topped the district level in KCPE,” she said.

This term, according to Nyamanche Head teacher Fred Masiaga the school enrolement jumped to 684 students caused by clashes months ago.

“Most often classes are disrupted when Abairege and Abanyabasi clans in Kuria fight which is often. The school has been used as refugee center with parents bringing their students here” he explained.

Masiaga said the center will be a welcome to end stigma associated with clashes.
