Elimu Sacco members from Rongo, Awendo demand dividends

Members of Elimu Sacco from Rongo and Awendo sub-counties have threatened to leave the institution over lack of dividends in three financial years.

During a meeting held at Kuja Primary School for the Deaf, in Rongo town over 350 members said they should be offered dividends in the current financial year.

Joseph Ondongo, a member, also said they have not been receiving their statements and requested the branch officials who were present to ensure that they get their statements on a quarterly basis.

Bernard Odhiambo, the Sacco chairman promised to offer dividends to members and will pass their request during April AGM

“We have a share capital of Sh26.7million, this will enable us offer dividends of 7.5percent of share,” he said.

He said members are often requested to contribute Sh 1, while delegates contribute Sh 1,500.

“We will also offer their quarterly statement soon,” he said.

Rongo Cooperatives Officer Abraham Obuya who was also present at the event said that he will work with other officials to ensure that their requests are put into place.

He asked the members to sensitize other teachers to join the Elimusacco for it has several benefits such as loans offered to members to enable members clear outstanding loans inorder to qualify for another loan.
