Samba Boys FC are Nyatike champs

Lone goal from Wicklife Nyainda in the 34th minute proved enough to ensure that Samba boys FC overcame Nyatike FC to emerged champions during this year’s Nyatike annual sports festival that was hosted in the Maiga stadium, Nyatike Sub County.
During the game, Samba boys completely dominated the final missing several scoring chances before Nyainda capitalised on a defensive lapse from Nyatike to slot the ball home to send the thousands of fans who had thronged the stadium into frenzy.
In the third place playoff, Defending champions Maiga Fc lost by a solitary goal to Oula through Calvince Omondi’s second half strike after he rounded Maiga goalkeeper Fred Otieno to tap the ball into an empty net.
In other games Lichogo clinched the netball trophy after beating Maiga A 7-6 and this saw Maiga teams dominate as Maiga B also took position three following a 6-5 win over Matoso.Maiga ladies also clinched the women football tittle.
In the individual awards, Calvince Omondi from Oula FC was named the best player of the tournament, Irine Paul the top scorer with 5 goals while Charles Njonjo was the best referee and Matoso Fc being the most disciplined team of the tournament.
The games were graced by Migori Governor  Hon Zacharia Obado who promised to officially  sponsor the event next year and promote sports culture within the county.
“Let us work together and nature this young talented people so that Migori to have their own Drogba or Oliech and avoid politics in sports,” he said adding that the county was keen to ensure that talented sportsmen and women were well nurtured and given all the support they needed.
At the same time, he announced that every polling station in Migori County to get 3 balls from Migori county government, football, netball and volleyball.
This, he said will be done to help promote sports culture and help nature talents within the county and also to promote peace and unity among the people of Migori county.
“We want to have more sports people in this county and we are ready to give the needed support the sports people as this will help promote unity within the people and bring good spirit from our county”. He said.
Obado also advised youth to venture on education or get other developmental activities that can help improve their living standard.
“Any young man outside there who does not want to learn in our schools, colleges and polytechnics to get something to do for their will be no place for idlers”.  He added.
The events were attended by different county leaders led by the County’s first lady Hellen Obado,Minister of Youths and Sports Maneno Mikwabe,Sports Director Silas Jonjo,Ward reps,Fatuma Mohamed and Tom Odege whom all gave different trophies and awards.
