Origi set to be the first Kenyan to play in World Cup

Kenyan-born striker Divock Origi has been included in Belgium’s provisional squad for 2014 World Cup.

Origi, who turns out for French Lique 1 side Lille, is among a 23-man squad named on Tuesday.

Origi, son of former Kenya international Mike Okoth Origi, was in top form for Lille in French league and has been drafted alongside Everton strikers Romelu Lukaku and Kevin Mirallas and Eden Hazard of Chelsea.

Harambee Stars coach Adel Amrouche had expressed his wish to see Origi don Kenyan colors and he told Goal in his opening press conference prior to starting camp for Afcon qualifiers that he was hopeful the towering striker, who has scored five times in 29 Ligue 1 games this season, will play for Kenya.

“Him (Origi) and Dennis Oliech playing in the same team will be great. It will be the best partnership in the whole of Africa.”
