Migori governor Okoth Obado scholarship has refused to factor in children living with disability despite a policy, three leaders have said.

County nominated legislator representing People Living With Disability, Dennitah Ghati lauded the governor for his hallmark scholarship but said it had discriminated on them.

“In the current financial year over Sh20million full scholarships was launched for needy students, sadly most disable students have been left out,” Ghati said.

She was speaking on Sunday to parents, teachers and education stakeholders of St. Joseph’s Nyamosense School for the Deaf in Mabera Kuria West,

“For a disable student to sit for national examinations the challenge passed is always great and should be considered in all scholarships,” she said.

Her sentiments was shared by Esther Onana, Migori MCA nominated and Tagare MCA Rioba Ng’abia.

The three leaders called on The kitty seeks needy students who scored 350 marks and above in primary school for sull scholarship up to college.

“During formulation of disability policy for Migori we ensured those with about 250 marks in the category get bursary, this has not been realised,” Onana said.

“Those still hiding their disable children in their homes are denying those privileges and rights which are protected in the Kenyan Constitution,” Ghati said.

Speaking at the same function Migori County National Council for Persons with Disability coordinat1or Julie Minyoso reiterated that locals should report to the area Chiefs about children LWD hidden by their parents.
