Many parents and education stakeholders in Nyatike have come out to criticize the manner in which the eviction of the principals by parents and also the dismal performance of the school in the sub county.
A spot check by the media in some of the schools revealed that many schools cannot perform well due to the shortage of infrastructure.
At Kanga Onditi Secondary School the parents want the current principal transferred accusing him of poor development and academic records.
“The current principal has let the school down and there is no more development taking place both academically and in terms of infrastructure and that’s why the parents reacted saying they need a new person to head the school.
In the neighbouring Obolo Mixed High School, the deputy Napoleon Amoko said that the school has had a lot of problems and the parents wanted the current principal to leave due to the same problem of poor development academically and no infrastructure.
He said that the school has only three teachers employed by the Teacher’s Service Commission and the total number of teachers in the school being nine.
The shortage of teachers has also hindered and affected the academic progress of the schools in the sub county with many of them being in the semi-arid region of Nyatike in Migori County.
The same sentiments were echoed by the Kenya Post Primary Education Teachers, KUPPET Migori branch Orwa Samwel Jasolo who said that most schools in the county are virtually affected by the transfer of principals and others are attacked by the community.
He wanted more infrastructure to be put in place in most of the schools in the sub county and the larger Migori County.
The stakeholders wants the schools in the semi-arid region to be improved by the Government and more teachers to be also employed.
