Is Migori governor Okoth Obado political clout waning ahead of 2022 after he decamped from ODM party to popularise PDP and throw support for Deputy President William Ruto

Apart from receiving debatable reception from the public and a thin list of potential PDP candidates who helped him welcome Ruto recently, more spotlight will be shone on his political prowess after failure to convince his key allies to join him to PDP.

On Friday, Migori county secretary Christopher Rusana officially launched his governor bid in 2022 general elections under the ODM ticket flanked by several Obado allies shunning PDP completely.

Rusana has walked with Obado as his secretary, the most powerful position in devolved administration was expected to follow his boss but instead said he will vie for the ticket under the ODM party and ensure leader Raila Odinga gets maximum votes in the ballot in next polls.

“I will move across the county and ensure Raila gets at least 98 per cent of the votes, I needed endorsement from my Suna base which I will use as a unit to campaign in each corner of the county,” Rusana said.

Migori county Energy executive Rebbeca Maroa vie to replace governor Okoth Obado on UDA ticket, she too has refused to follow his boss to PDP

Obado administration has been rocked with corruption, murder and embezzlement charges some ongoing in courts with his legacy being a point of debate.

His allies have been forced to shoulder these burdens, and before he spoke Rusana appeared to distance himself further from his boss and his administration shortcoming when the first thing he asked before making his speech being forgiveness.

“I am also a human being, if I have hurt anybody I ask for forgiveness and I stand here to say sorry as we start a new journey for new county,” Rusana said.

This comes as Water Executive Rebecca Maroa has jumped over to UDA and has been publicly announcing it even in rallies attended by Obado.

Immediate former Awendo MP Jared Kopiyo who will defend his seat in 2022 has also picked UDA instead of PDP. Kopiyo was appointed the Migori County Public Service Board chair by Obado.

Other key Obado allies who have declared to be in the ballot have also refused to embrace PDP publicly rising questions who the governor can convince in the next polls as the party slogan is ‘Mamlaka kwa Wananchi”
