World Bank’s KYEOP to empower 771 Migori youths economically

A total of 771 youths have been selected to undergo training in a program under Kenya Youth Employment and Opportunities Programme (KYEOP).

Speaking during selection of the youths at Migori Teachers College Conference Hall, KYEOP Deputy National Project Coordinator, Dr. Joseph Katam said 200 youths will benefit from business support program while 571 shall join training which is expected to aid them acquire employability skills in their area of specialisation.

KYEOP is a World Bank sponsored program and being implemented by the Government of Kenya. The youths targets youths between 18 and 29 years.

Dr. Katam said the program targets the mass unemployed youths from zero education to form four but willing to learn technical skills under the supervision of local practising craftsmen and women.

He said the program is designed to accommodate youths who may have little education background but quick and ready to acquire skills in different technical skills course.

More than six thousands youths in Migori applied for the program launched in July.

A designed computer aided program randomly selected the youths spread in Migori eight constituencies.

The local leaders present at the meeting however questioned the fate of the bulk of the youths who didn’t qualify to be selected.

Youths under business support program will first undergo entrepreneurship aptitude test for them to be given Sh40,000 grand for them to start business.
