We don’t want Sony to be privatized- MPs Walter, Abuor

Sugarcane farmers allied with Sony Sugar company have called on government never to privatize the only miller still functioning.

Drawn from Migori, Kisii, Homa Bay and Narok counties, they said they have rejected the government’s proposal to privatize the miller.

Farmers also called on top company management to help steer the company to profit.

Led by Awendo MP Walter Owino Sirawa and his Rongo counterpart Paul Abuor, the farmers told the sugarcane task force led by the director Zakayo Magara said that they have rejected the proposal.

“This will be an economic sabotage to the south Nyanza sugarcane growing region,” Owino said.

 “The company will not be privatized and the idea to do that will kill the economy of the south Nyanza region and render many people jobless,” he added.

The farmers led by Wilson Agar, said the company top management should streamline operatin of the company.
