Homa Bay county on Wednesday celebrated the international day for maternal health care and rights chaired by their Woman Representative Gladys Wanga.

Wanga said the county still grapples with challenges ranging from traditional myths and believes, poverty and high rate of teenage pregnancy causing deaths during pregnancy for both mothers and infants.

Speaking during the function held in Homa Bay high school, Wanga insisted that no woman should die while bringing forth a new born.

In an initiative dabbed Linda Mama, Wanga called on women from this county to make good use of health facilities to make them safe and improve their health even after delivery.

The legislature said it was time for all the leaders, health stakeholders and churches by extension to sensitize the community of the importance of safe delivery in hospitals to improve the health index in the county.

This move received a boost when homabay county assembly through its health chair Maurice Ogwang said that plans are underway to allocate more funds to boost the health facilities and make deliveries’ more affordable.
