Sony starts paying farmers dues as Ayacko led team in Awendo

JUST IN: Sony Sugar Company has started paying farmers the Sh516million after government through Agriculture and Food Authority wired the money on Monday.

Ezra Olodi, the secretary general of sugarcane farmers union said so far Sh1.9billion which is part of Sh2.7billion has been paid across the country.

“From Wednesday and Thursday farmers in cooperative bank received their payment,” Olodi said.

The payment comes as Migori senator Ochillo Ayacko is set to host senate agriculture committee colleagues in Sony.

“We welcome the leaders to Sony, but as farmers we wont talk about payment as the management has seen to that. We will seek to give views to boost the sector,” Olodi said.

The committee sought to seek views on the sector on delayed payments, how to make the industry better.
