Awendo MP Walter Owino has said Migori residents will receive Deputy President William Ruto as a political tourist and won’t miss leaders who will host him.

Speaking to Migori News on Friday, Owino said since all presidential candidates including ODM leader Raila Odinga will transverse the whole country Ruto will be ‘welcomed’ for the funds drive at Awendo Central SDA Church.

Ruto will be hosted by immediate former Awendo MP Jared Kopiyo who is currently the chairman of Migori County Public Services Board.

In last polls, Owino won the seat by getting 20,488 votes against Kopiyo who was an Independent ticket with 11,663 votes.

“ODM leaders and Raila they will not grace Ruto’s function and said they will call for calm on residents in the area during the event, those who are against the Luo community can go there,” Owino said.

He said as a political tourist, the visit by Ruto will be baseless and he is ready and free to come to Awendo and sell his development and political ideology because that is the same reception we want all politicians to get across the country ahead of 2022 general elections.

“We also wish well local and regional political leaders who will host him, they won’t be missed in ODM,” Owino chided Kopiyo.

Owino said Ruto should desist from insulting local leaders and issue inflammatory attack on Odinga and the ODM party like he has been doing in the past to avoid confrontation with locals.

“We believe there is a democratic right for leaders to associate with electorates and we wish he has a peaceful meeting, though he will just be a political tourist as Migori is solidly behind Raila and ODM,” he said.
