I missed governor’s meeting because I was busy, says Machage

Migori Senator Wilfred Machage says he skipped last week’s meeting organised by the county government because the invitation came late.

“My diary was already full by the time I received the invite for the dialogue forum planned by Governor Okoth Obado,” Dr Machage said.

“A leader of my calibre cannot be invited to attend function within a notice of 24 hours. My diary was already busy with Senate matters. That was a poor invitation,” he added.

“I am a serious leader who should be given adequate time to prepare for functions. I’d prefer that in future the county government consults me before fixing dates for functions.”

Dr Machage however demanded his full involvement in the administration of the county. “The county government has reduced me to a by-stander yet my office is very key as far as devolution is concerned,” he said.

EIGHT MPs
But Dr Machage is not the only one who missed the meeting. All the eight local MPs. Dr Machage was represented by his office manager Peter Masara. Woman Representative Denittah Ghati also sent a representative.

Only Mr Obado, his deputy Mahanga Mwita, some MCAs, executive committee members, chief officers, directors, religious leaders, civil society members and the public attended the meeting in Migori.

Mr Obado accused some leaders of sabotaging his development agenda.

“Some are still in the past. They are yet to accept the reality that I’m the governor. They are always busy planning how to spoil things,” lamented the governor.

Mr Obado took participants through development projects he has initiated since he took office two years ago.
