Migori teachers want Kaimenyi sacked over gazzete notice

Migori county teachers have called on President Uhuru Kenyatta to sack his education cabinet secretary over incompetence.

Led by Kenya Union of Post Primary Education, leaders said Kaimenyi should be sacked for failing to address matters that have burdened teachers and the sector for decades.

Migori Kuppet chairman Kennedy Makasembo said the move by the CS to issue a gazette notice directing the public school heads to be directly answerable to the ministry was the last straw that broke the camel’s back.

He said the ministry can’t control teachers as this was the duty of Teachers Service Commission under Article 237 of TSC Act.

“Kaimenyi is out to rape the sector and has done nothing tangible since he took over office. He only issues threats and half cooked policies,” he said.

He added, “Instead of looking into serious matters like security of teachers in working stations, staffing and boosting infrastructures in school, the CS is taking the sector to the dogs.”

His sentiments were echoed by Evans King’wara, a KUPPET member from Migori who challenged the ministry to handle teachers with the respect they deserve.

“The ministry of education should really look at matters that will improve learning in our institutions not look for ways of suppressing teachers,” he said.

The two unionist said Migori teachers will be ready to join other teachers nationally for a strike until the directive will be de-gazetted.
