Love triangle turns tragic at Mwea Prisons as warden shoots colleague dead, turn gun on self

Kenyans are reeling in shock after a prison warden shot dead a colleague and turned his gun on self over love triangle gone sour.

The incident was reported at Wanguru Police Station in Kirinyaga county under OB06/04/01/2021 at 00:20HRS.

According to Isaac Bwire the officer in charge of the prison, the shooting happened at senior staff quarters.

Police report said when Bwire and others rushed to the scene they found “Kering Kipkosgei and Bonface Ngaragari had been shot.”

Kering is said to have visited his girlfriend’s house, Esther Muthoni Mwangi who is also an officer at the same prison.

“As they were having supper together with Esther’s children Ngaragari who is her former husband came in,” Bwire said.

The two men started quarrelling over Esther and a fight ensued where Bonface tore his rival’s shirt.

“Esther managed to separate them and escorted Bonface out. Kering who was armed with a Ceska pistol withdrew it and shot Bonface,” Bwire said.

The bullet hit Bonface on “the right side of the neck and exit on the left side,” Kering realising what he had done ran outside and shot himself.

“The two were rushed to Karira Mission Hospital where they were pronounced dead,” police said.

Police took the ceska pistol, 11 rounds of 9mm bullets, four spent cartridge and one bullet head all assigned to the prison.

A Subaru vehicle, GKB 476J, assigned to Kirinyaga East DCC was also picked from the scene.

The bodies are at Karira Mission Hospitals mortuary waiting for postmortem examination.
