Prolonged Legio Maria church leadership wrangles are set to ease after both sides withdrew cases against each other.

Raphael Ochieng Adika, officially withdrew the case against the late Romanus Ong’ombe which he filled in 2018 as both claimed to be popes of the church.

Adika’s lawyers led by Omonde Kasera  and those of the late Ong’ombe led by Kwanga Mboya took orders to officially withdraw the case at Migori High Court before Hon. Anthony Murima.

Ong’ombe’s side also withdrew the case against  Adika which they filled in 2016 demanding the church properties back.

According to orders, the two cases are officially withdrawn and both files closed with anybody who goes against them risk being cited for contempt of court and may risk a six months jail term.

Cardinal Joseph Ong’awo Aloo who was sued alongside the late Ong’ombe while speaking at the compound of the Migori High Court, thanked Cardinal Adika for withdrawing the case.

“This is a good sign for peace in the church and we anticipate growth in future,” he said.

After the death of Ong’ombe, Lawrence Ochieng Kalul took over Legio Maria leadership as Pope despite existing court cases.
