A candidate in the ongoing primary national examinations has threatened to commit suicide after his name misses from a center.
Emanuel Odhiambo, 13, was registered at St Joseph Ombo Primary, a public school after studying at Break Through Academy in Migori town.
Odhiambo said he realised his name was missing when he joined 20 other candidates from his academy at the school for rehearsal on Monday.
“Yesterday (Momday) I was told to come and sit for Mathematics paper but I’m shocked to be locked out of the examination room after as my index number was missing,” he said.
Odhiambo threatened to commit suicide if he failed to sit the exams since his dream of becoming an engineer had been dealt a major blow.
“We knew our son was going to sit for his examination as was prepared since he has been performing well, we are afraid he may actualize his threats if not properly advised,” Teresa Atieno Otieno, the mother said.
Break Through Academy director Boaz Oyoo, said the institution was not registered as an examination center and was also closed by government in recent crackdown over unsafe buildings.
“All our candidates name were taken to Ombo, any mishap was from their end,” he said.
The incident happened as Principal Secretary State Department for University Education Professor Colleta Suda oversaw distribution of examinations across Migori County at Migori commissioner’s offices.
Suda said the ministry of Education had vowed to deal with exam malpractice across the country as the exam period starts.
