Kanga High School has put up more effort as the InterswitchSPAKKe has been moved online because of Covid 19 resitrictions.

This year competition is expected to bring more schools despite effects of Covid 19.

InterswitchSPAK, a Pan – African Science competition designed to empower African students in the area of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) and is done in Kenya and Nigeria.

Already, according to the competition website “thousands of secondary schools in Kenya have registered their students already.”

Last year, Jemimah Achieng from Asumbi Girls, was the winner of InterswitchSPAKKe Competition as she emerged as the best science student in Kenya! Congratulations!

“The initiative was introduced for high school students to develop, ignite and chart a career path in the area of STEM education and drive them towards fully optimizing their potential to make Africa a better place for us all,” the competition said.

Already, 1,479 students are currently participating in the competition which has several advantages which includes position one being awarded university scholarship worth Sh1.5 million with six years stipends and a laptop.

Second best student is awarded university scholarship worth Sh750,000 with three years stipends and a laptop while on the other hand position three will receive university scholarship worth Sh150,000 with one year stipend and a laptop.

Kanga high school principal  MrReuben Kodiango stressed on the need of encouraging and supporting students to take part on such events noting that it helps them strengthen their prowess in the science related subjects since it tests on biology, physics, mathematics, chemistry, computer and others tested in the Kenya certificate for secondary education.

James Kabaraka the deputy in-charge of academics said they are supporting her students especially after participants in the last competition managed to reach the semis in Nigeria where they were position four.

“The administration is in support of this program through provision of laptops, data bundles and other resources being used in the process since this is aimed at getting started on orienting and exposing them on use of technology in learning,” said Kabaraka.
