IEBC stops Migori County registration over governor’s case

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has stopped voter registration in Migori county awaiting the judgment on governor’s election.

Embattled governor Okoth Obado appealed at the Supreme Court after court of appeal nullified his election.
Migori IEBC coordinator Morris Raria said the process will go on after the case is determined.

“We have taken the move to prevent the county voter register from being tampered with in case of a by election,” he said.

Already voter registration has been stopped in all 40 wards and eight sub-counties in the county.

“We call for calm in the county and residents who want to check the status of their registration are allowed to do so in IEBC offices,” he said.

He said the case of a by election the old register will be used.
